Aegean Airlines was establishing Aegean Aviation by Antonis and Nikolaos Simigdalas in 1987. It has on many occasions received awards for its success and fairness from the European Regional Airlines Association (ERA), including the ‘Gold Award 2004/05’, the ‘Silver Award 2005/06’ as well as the ‘Bronze Award 2000/01’. In 1992 Aegean Aviation becomes the first private airline with an air operator's certificate in Greece. In 1994, it is united with Vassilakis Group of Companies.
In March 1999, the first flight from Athens to Heraklion and Thessaloniki was performed by 2 new aircraft JET AVRORJ 100 manufactured by BAE systems. In 2001, it is merged by Aegean and Cronus Airlines and operated as Aegean Cronus Airlines. In November 2005, the airline has been in partnership with Lufthansa due to the cooperation both airlines offer their passengers code-share flights, convenient transfer and many other benefits. In 2006 Aegean Airlines and TAP Portugal agree co-operation agreement. It has 1,609 employees.

FLEET:
