AeroMexico entered the airline business more than a decade ago dedicated to providing fast and reliable service throughout South America and Europe. Today, AeroMexico continues to maintain that standard with thousands of Aero Mexico employees and 72 AeroMexico aircrafts.Aero Mexico serves 49 destinations throughout South America and Europe, with the major Aero Mexico hub in Mexico City. With dedicated service and 317 daily departures, Aero Mexico has proven itself as a leader in South American travel.
AeroMexico began as Aeronaves de México. Mexico saw very few changes until the 1950's. During the 1950's AeroMexico grew with strength. The airline took over several of its competitors such as Aerovias Guest, which owned quite lucrative routes such as Mexico City to Madrid, Spain and Paris, France. Popular DC-3 and DC-4 aircraft were added to the fleet of AeroMexico for passenger’s comfort, safety, and overall growing operations. During the 1960's AeroMéxico started to change its fleet drive towards the jet age. The Douglas DC-8 aircraft was the first jet to join the airline, which at the time was still known as Aeronaves de México, followed shortly by the Douglas DC-9. This way the airline started expending gradually its international service, along with shorter flight times between cities.
A good portion of AeroMexico current destinations was added between 1989 and 1995. AeroMexico became one of the founders of SkyTeam in 1999. On November 29, 2005, Mexicana was removed to ties with AeroMéxico when Grupo Cintra sold the Mexicana division to Grupo Posadas, a large hotel chain in Mexico. In the period between 2000-2005 it had an average fleet of more than 60 aircraft in main line, plus 20 in Aerolitoral.
