Air Algerie

Air Algerie is the international airline of Algeria. Air Algérie, one of the largest carriers in North Africa, operates scheduled passenger and cargo services to over 39 destinations in 28 countries throughout Europe, North and West Africa, Europe and the Middle East. Air Algerie is in the process of becoming a member of the SkyTeam airline alliance by late 2007. Its main base is Houari Boumedienne Airport, Algiers. Air Algerie was set up in 1947 as the Société algérienne de construction aéronautique (SACA)-Air Algérie. By 1974 it was came under the ownership of the Algerian State. On 1953 it merged with the Compagnie air transport to form the Compagnie générale de transports aériens (CGTA). Airline flag carrier of the North African nation of Algeria has ordered 10 Next-Generation 737s, Boeing Commercial Airplane Group (BCAG) confirmed today.



Air Algerie selected seven 737-800s and three 737-600s to replace its existing 727 and 737-200 aircraft. Delivery of the seven 737-800s is scheduled for 2000 and 2001, with the three 737-600s scheduled for 2002. Air Algerie, which is in the process of expansion, is the fourth largest airline of Africa. It carries over 6 million passengers a year.
