Air India is the national Airlines of India founded by the legendary JRD Tata in 1930. Air India Airlines was earlier known as Tata Airlines. Air India's network covers 44 destinations and it operates services with its own aircraft and through code-shared flights. It is the only state-owned airline in the country, having recently merged with Indian Airlines. Air India gets the member of the Star Alliance on the December 2007.
Air India’s history can be started on October 1932. Tata Airlines was converted into a Public Company under the name of Air India in August 1946. In March 1948, it starts the international operations. In 1950’s the Government decided to nationalize air transport.Air India uses the Mascot ‘The Maharaja’ because of completion of its 75Th anniversary. On March 1994, the airline has been functioning as Air India Limited. In 1954, the airline took delivery of its first L-1049 Super Constellations and inaugurated services to Singapore, Bangkok, Hong Kong and Tokyo.
Air India uses its first jet its Boeing 707 in1960. On June 1962 Air India became the world's first all-jet airline. In 1999, the airline opened its dedicated Terminal 2-C at the newly renamed Chatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai. It expanded its business in its low-cost subsidiary named Air India Express in May 2004. The two airlines formally became one on July 2007 upon receiving the new Boeing 777-200LR with the new livery of the merged airline. Flying Returns is the frequent flyer Program ofAir India.
