Air Jamaica is the national airline of Jamaica situated in Kingston, Jamaica. It was established in 1968. Air Jamaica operates the flight services from Kingston and Montego Bay to 26 destinations in the Canada, USA, and U.K. Its main base is Norman Manley International Airport.
Air Jamaica began operations in 1969 as the first Jamaican based international airline.
On April 1969, ‘Air Jamaica limited’ was setup with the Government of Jamaica holding majority shares in the airline. During the 1970s, it expanded rapidly to so many other destinations. Long-haul services to Europe were started on April 1974.
Air Jamaica uses Douglas DC-8s in 1970s, but the McDonnell Douglas DC-9 and Boeing 727 jets became a part of the fleet towards the end of this year. In 1992, it began the first scheduled nonstop service from Orlando to Jamaica. In 1994 the company gets privatized. Air Jamaica now celebrates 37 years of service. It has over 2,500 employees.
