Air Mauritius is the national airline of the island of Mauritius, with headquarters based in Port Louis. Air Mauritius operates both regional and international services; flying to over 30 destinations across including Australia, Asian, and the main is European. Its main hub is in Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport Mauritius.
Air Mauritius was setup in June 1967 and started its operations modestly in August 1972. Its International operations started in 1977 by using a Boeing 707 from British Air tours. In 1998, the Air Mauritius Airline was approved as a JAR (Joint Aviation Requirements) 145 Maintenance Organization by the French Direction Generale de L'Aviation Civile (DGAC).Air Mauritius launched a major corporate restructuring program in March 2002.
During the period of 1970s and 1980s, the airline launched Boeing 707s and Boeing 747s. The Airbus A340 in 1994, with ATR 42s introduced in 1997, an ATR 72 introduced in 2002 for inter-island routes and Airbus A319 for regional flights. Air Mauritius launched its new Airbus A340-300Es to London Heathrow and Hong Kong in December 2006. It employs 2,761 staff.
