Air New Zealand Airlines is the national airways of New Zealand based in Auckland. It was established in 1940. New Zealand Airways serves its flight to Europe, North America and Asia, and United Kingdom and mainly focus on Australasia and the South Pacific. The airline became a member of Star Alliance. Air New Zealand Airlines began as ‘TEAL’ (Tasman Empire Airways Limited) in 1940. In April 1965, TEAL was renamed as ‘Air New Zealand Limited’. In 1978, the domestic ‘National Airways Corporation’ (NAC) and its subsidiary ‘Safe Air’ were merged into TEAL to form ‘Air New Zealand Airlines’. The airline launched the first DC-8 jet aircraft in 1965 to North America and Asia. The New Zealand Airways introduced first 747 in 1981. In April 1989, the airline was privatized by the New Zealand Government. The current fleet of New Zealand aircraft includes Boeing 747, 767, and 737 jets in 2003.
