British Midland Airlines

British Midland Airways Limited or BMI is an airline based in Donington Hall, United Kingdom. It was established in 1938.The airlines operates its flights in 38 destinations in Europe, United States, Caribbean and Saudi Arabia. BMI is a member of the Lufthansa/SAS/United Airlines-led STAR Alliance. British Midland Airlines is the second largest airline in the U.K. Its main bases are Manchester Airport and London Heathrow Airport.



British Midland Airlines has started its operation in 1938. The first frequent flyer scheme for British Midland passengers, called Diamond Club is launched in 1987. In 1949 the company becomes known as Derby Aviation, diversifying operations to include passenger and cargo charter services. In 1982, the headquarters were transferred to Donington Hall, close to East Midlands Airport. British Midland Airlines launched 20 new A320 and A321 type aircraft in 1998, and also the first delivered A321 aircraft goes into service in April 1998. The airlines join a global alliance such as STAR or the British Airways/American Airlines-led Oneworld.
