Ethiopian Airlines was established as Ethiopian Air Lines Inc and it started operations in April 1946 between Addis Ababa and Cairo. The Airlines started its long haul flights to Frankfurt in 1957. It commenced its jet service in 1963, from Bole to Nairobi. It joined World Aviation Systems in November 2005 and is represented throughout Australia. Ethiopian Airways is wholly owned by the Government of Ethiopia. It has 4,700 employees.
