Delta and Northwest set date for shareholder votes

ATLANTA (AP) -- Shareholders at Delta Air Lines Inc. and Northwest Airlines Corp. will vote Sept. 25 on the stock swap that would join their companies.

Delta announced the date on Friday, and Northwest spokeswoman Tammy Lee confirms that Northwest shareholders will vote the same day.

Northwest shareholders will have their annual meeting in New York that day. If the deal closes they will receive one-and-a-quarter Delta shares for every Northwest share they own.

Delta shareholders will vote in Atlanta.

The two carriers are aiming to close the deal around the end of the year, but they need approval from shareholders and antitrust authorities.
