Singapore Airlines (SIA) operated its first commercial flight from Singapore to Kuala Lumpur, Ipoh and Penang in May 1947. The airline was later renamed ‘ Malaysian Airways ’ in 1963, and ‘Malaysia-Singapore Airlines’ in 1967. Singapore Airways operates a fleet of MEGATOP 747s and JUBILEE 777s, and took delivery of its first A340-500 in December 2003. It is the first airline in the world to operate the Airbus A380 "super jumbo" when it joins the fleet in early 2006.
SIA was wholly owned subsidiary, SilkAir, and manages regional flights to secondary cities with smaller capacity requirements. Singapore Airlines was Asia's first and the world's third airline to be accredited by IATA with the IOSA (IATA Operations Safety Audit). Singapore Airlines Cargo Service is world renowned.
