TAM Mercosur started operations in 1963 as Líneas Aéreas Paraguayas. The airline adopted its current name ‘TAM Mercosur’ when the TAM Group of Brazil acquired a majority stake in September 1996. In 1994 it established a separate subsidiary of airline in Paraguay, named ARPA - Aerolineas Paraguayas. Its frequent flyer program of TAM Mercosur was founded in 1993. In September 1996, TAM Mercosur was state-owned airline of Paraguay Government.
